Orthopedic 1st visit

Published by martinsoo under Uncategorized

Went to doctor yesterday. Nothing to report except suspect a pelvic stress fracture. Had bone scan today. A simple test. You just have to be prepared to wait 3 hours for the radioactive tracer to work its way through your body.

Injured hip still not well after 6 weeks. Changed workouts to non-impact for time being until I get a more definitive prognosis. Trying to have a positive attitude and find meaningful workouts to do.

The old saying is true, your health is everything.

Miss my running friends and being on the road. Looking forward to better days.

Running - No Running

Published by martinsoo under Uncategorized

I’ve started back running only to stop again. Here I am at Disney with an injured hip and laptop. The weather is brutally cold, low of 25 expected tonight. They are covering the trees in plastic here at the resort.

I’ve decided to take another week off and only walk for exercise. Going to get an ortho consult before I get back to normal training. I can’t seem to shake this hurt in my hip. It is totally frustrating.

Running is who I am and without it a part of me is missing. I don’t feel complete and I can’t think of anything to take its place. What is a guy to do?

I look forward to better days.

Run strong friends,

Sam

Happy New Year

Published by martinsoo under Misc, Uncategorized

It’s a little late for Happy New Year, but I’ve not been in a blogging mood. I can’t hardly capture any thoughts when I get out of my running routine. The last three and half weeks since my hip injury have been difficult. I just can’t stand not to be able to run when I want and how I want. I’ve been rehabbing the last week and that has helped tremendously. My personal trainer has helped lift my spirits and get me in the right frame of mind. I feel like I am going to get better and I am working hard to make it happen. She’s also helping me do the right exercises to stretch and strengthen the injured area.

I started back running Friday after another full week off. Those six miles were tough but welcomed. I was about to bust a gut if I had to go another day without running. I followed that up with a cool Saturday morning run down Estes Rd. Then Sunday I went with two young runners on a beautiful brisk Long Run. It was the best 14 miles I’ve done in a while. We managed a comfortable 7:05 pace and had some great conversations including a short devotional on God’s word being a lamp unto our feet and a light onto our path.

I am excited about 2009. I really don’t plan to race as much as I did in 2008. I want to focus on a few key races and try a new training program. I read Jack Daniel’s book, “Running Formula” during the holidays. I like the way he breaks down training into four phases and recommends breaks at the end of a season. His VDOT charts show that I have been training at too fast a pace and he explains why. I believe it and am going to try to follow his training paces very closely. We’ll see how that goes.

I am getting ready to spend a week in Disney and will have to runĀ at the Disney Boardwalk early each day to beat the crowds.

Later dude. Run Strong Friends,

Sam
