Running is more fun when you're with a group.

Loop the Loop on Sundays @ 7:15am

Looking for company on your long runs?  Sundays at 7:15 a.m., the triangle is the place to be.   Go northwest on Forsyth, cross Bass Road, and turn right on Old Forsyth (just past Howard Middle School).  Link to map.  Park on the “triangle” just before the railroad tracks.  The full loop is 12 miles, with water stops at 4.5 & 9 miles. Often people will run to the first water stop and back for a total of 9 miles, or take the shortcut back along a dirt road for a total of 7.5 miles.  There is a wide range of paces, so you'll be in good company no matter how fast or slow you're feeling that morning. This is a great time to catch up with old friends and make new ones, get or give running advice to your comrades, and improve your endurance at the same time.  Start running the loop, and, before long, you'll be ready to run a marathon!

Sunday Drink Rotation June 8th - Oct. 26th

For group track workouts, go to the Speeding Bulletin section on the programs page.

Cross-training?  Here are some other places frequented by the runner crowd:

Group Bike Rides - click link for more information provided by master biker Bill Causey.  Or visit Macon's Security Bank Cycling Team website.

Swim at Northside with Justin Correia - you too can have your very own expert swim coach! Go at 5:15 a.m. Mon-Wed-Fri if you want, or here's a more humane alternative: Justin is there from 11 am to 1 pm on Tues-Wed-Thurs also. Swimming is a great way to recover from those long runs, and, who knows, there might be a triathlon in your future. I can personally attest to Justin's teaching skills. If he can teach me, he can teach anyone. This is a real bargain at $20/month (and you can pay just for the months you plan to go). Show up at the appointed hour and give it a try!

Yoga with Lisa Seneker - work out the kinks while de-stressing your mind at this popular Friday morning class, 8:30 am at the Wellness Center.  Runners are notoriously bad about stretching.  Yoga is a great way to decrease your chance of injury by improving your flexibility.  Lisa does a great job, and it's no wonder she gets such a great turnout  for this class.

Spin Class with Suni - This 6 am Tuesday-Thursday class at the Wellness Center gets rave reviews from seasoned tri-athletes.  Come early to get your bike set up.  45 min cycle workout followed by 15 min stretch (Tuesday) and 15 min abs (Thursday).  On Wednesdays at 6am Suni teaches a 60 minute fitness/strength work out with 30 minutes of abs/core followed by weights for lower and upper body and stretch.

Evening Run from Mercer University

Join Krista Wieters, FM Barron, and Kevin Hatfield every Wednesday at 6 pm and Thursdays at 5:30 pm on Mercer University’s main campus (on College St).  Meet on the steps  of the University Center (facing the Shorter Dorm, where the gym is).  Link to map. The distance is about 5 miles around downtown Macon at varied paces.  E-mail Krista for more information, click here for flyer.

Saturday Morning Perfect 12 Run

New! Tim Cook has a group that meets at 7 am on Saturday mornings in Central City Park by the old yacht club. They are running 7-8 miles now, but will be ramping up to 20 miles by February in preparation for the Snickers Marathon in Albany in March. The pace is 11-12 minutes/mile. They meet on Saturdays when they aren't racing, so check with Tim to make sure which Saturdays are on. Thanks, Tim, for leading this group!

Click to view a great map of the Georgia Industrial Children's Home (thanks to the folks doing the Mercer Invitational Cross Country meet for putting this together).

The Early Bird Gets the Run

For all you early risers, head to Wesleyan College on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 5:45.  Meet in the Wesleyan parking lot at the corner of Forsyth & Tucker Road (or park at the Eckerd's across the street).  On Tuesday, the run is 5 miles, and on Thursday, it's 6 miles.  Contact Mary Katz for more information.  Be there on time, and be sure to wear a reflective vest.  A small handheld flashlight is useful, too.

There is something magical about running in the dark when most everyone else is asleep.  This run is especially appealing this time of year as it's usually cool at 5:45 in the morning.  Get your run in early and feel energized the rest of the day!

Wednesday Evening Run Fit Run

Head to Run Fit Sports (4524 Forsyth Road) for a 6 pm run on Wednesday evenings.  Distance, 2 to 8 miles, pace 7 min/mile to walking.  Contact Perry Slaughter for more information.

Downtown Riverwalk Run at Lunch
Meet at the Macon Health Club at the corner of 1st and Cherry a little after noon on weekdays.  The run begins by heading down 1st Street to Riverside Drive, turn right onto Riverside, then left onto the MLK bridge.  The bridge takes you over the river to get to the Riverwalk path.  Run to the end of the Riverwalk, then down the side street almost to the stop sign, then back to make an even 5 miles.  E-mail Dave if you plan to come so he can be on the lookout for you.
